Improv Meets its Match in '3 First Dates'
Anyone who lives in St. Pete knows that the go-to date night involves food at a great local, independent restaurant. From Beau & Mo’s to Mercado, you can find pairings of first-time partners, popping collars and flaunting flowy skirts. All along the waterfront, hopeful suitors play at picking up a one-on-one match in bed...
Like anyone who’s single in St Pete knows, the pristine cafes and conch croquettes on Beach Drive don’t always lead to lavish love or lustful liberation. Dating is still dating, and it is still St Pete, where the best and brightest can blend in with busted and broke so long as they can fit the bill at the end of the night.
In a city with so much potential for love - with murals on every building and dolphins at your dangling feet - one thing is for certain: anyone can be a ‘Florida Man’ or a ‘Real Housewife’.
Spitfire’s next romantic comedy, 3 First Dates, will bring you the best and worst of dating in the Sunshine City. Each Saturday at 9p in January and February, 6 improvisers get paired up as couples on a first date at a fancy restaurant along St Pete’s iconic waterfront. Love is in the air and madness ensues as the characters reveal how they really feel - for better or for worse.
Coined as a ‘Chicago-style’ improv comedy show, Artistic Director Nick Rigs explains, it’s a throwback to SNL sketches and uses some of the oldest techniques in improv comedy.
“Audiences love it because of how simple it is, how close to home it hits, and how much fun it is to watch people experience a date and then ‘debrief’ with the audience at the end,” says Rigs, who created the show in 2018.
You can get tickets for the upcoming 3 First Dates online at spitfirecomedy.com/dates. Tickets are $25 or 2 for $20 each. Spitfire features a wide array of cocktails, beers, wines and sodas and onsite parking.
