Crowds Come Back for Improv Comedy

For some time now, Spitfire’s improvisers have been performing every weekend. Now that crowds are coming back, audiences are getting the benefit of seasoned performers hungry for a full house of laughs. At 40 seats, Spitfire’s tight acoustics and sharp lighting make it a live experience like no were else in the Bay area.

“We built the new theater to help us stay sharp and deliver a better show,” says Artistic Director Nick Rigs. “We all manage ourselves better here, and it’s easier to deliver when crowds show up. Now that they’re showing up, we’re getting a chance to create some great comedy.” Improv performers get on stage every Saturday night in 2 different show at Spitfire’s new location at 1920 1st Ave S in downtown St Pete.

Saturday nights at Spitfire feature an 8p Whose Line St Pete show with a host, a big golden bell, and players that compete for applause playing short form games. At 9p, the Closeline Comedy Machine show features ‘long form’ improv you might see at places like The Second City or Groundlings in bigger cities. Both shows feature casts of homegrown heroes mixed with big city transplants that offer a comedy experience as rewarding for the audience as it is the comedians.

Tickets to Spitfire’s Saturday night shows are $20 - you can save $5 a ticket when you come with a group of 4 or more, or when you see both shows that night. Enjoy a wide array of drinks options in the lounge, with over 50 craft, domestic and specialty beers, wine, cider and non-alcoholic drinks at more than fair prices. Get tickets online early in the week or at the door while seats are available.
