Comics Take Live & Local To A New Level

Live comedy has been booming again in Tampa Bay over the past few months. Local clubs have seen patrons enjoy every opportunity to get in-person laughs. Making no small contribution to the Bay area boom, Spitfire’s Grind Comedy Showcase has been St Pete’s spot each week for local comics and local crowds.

“Honestly, I’ve been impressed,” says Artistic Director Nick Rigs. “Not only have the crowds come back, they seem to want to see the comics who are working at this everyday. The hard work is paying off.” With over 50 of the hardest working comics in Tampa Bay on the bill and 4 fresh faces each week, stand up comedy has put down roots in St Pete’s Grand Central District and they’re growing fast with the incoming inclusion of Thursday night comedy game shows.

HOMETOWN HEADLINERS PROMISE BIG LAUGHS

This Friday at 830p and 10p catch John J Murray’s one hour special being recorded on Spitfire main stage. One of the area’s top comics for the past decade and founder of the Something Planet podcast, the show is being filmed in a double-header that will make it’s way to Amazon Prime Video.

“It’s a dream come true to have your full act on tv for everyone to see,” says Murray, who’s been putting the hour together for 10 years. “It’s also scary because now all these jokes are effectively retired.” When asked what happens next he says, “Time to write a whole new act.”

A few tickets are still available for both of John’s shows on Friday July 30th at spitfirecomedy.com/murray

One week later on August 6th, Christina Galston brings a fresh 30 minutes to the mic after The Grind Showcase in a special 10p headliner show. Since storming the house last November, Christina’s been working out new stuff! Catch her August 6th show at 10p on the main stage if you can - the show is already nearly sold out, so get tickets quick at spitfirecomedy.com/galston
