Spitfire Spotlight: Cameron Abernathy
What's your day job?
Web Design & Landscaping
Do you have any hobbies outside of improv?
Dungeons and Dragons, Gardening and Magic
What drew you to improv?
I used to do theater in high school, and boy oh boy did I love being onstage. I sort of struggled with finding a perfect character as I leaned more towards what was funniest. I first started improv when I founded the improv club in my high school, knowing nothing about improv. Some could say that my improv club was improvised. We played for a while, but eventually I graduated. A long while later, through some life-forming events, I found Spitfire and fell in love.
What do you like to do most on stage?
Just be totally real with other characters. Acting hyper-realistically (i.e. [Gets punched in the face] "Woah, man, hey- What? Where did that come from") is one of the funniest tools in an improviser's tool belt. A wizard summoning cheese realizing how crazy his whole thing really is, to me, is hilarious.
What makes a good scene in your opinion?
A scene where the same stupid part of reality is pointed out time and time again. That's really all game is.
What's the most memorable moment you've had at Spitfire?
When at my first day of rehearsal for Improvarama, I dislocated my knee doing a Fortnite dance.
How would you explain Spitfire shows to someone who's never been?
Silly characters either making bad decisions or playing silly games.
How would you describe the Spitfire community in 5 words or less?
Easy to find Good People
