Spitfire Spotlight: Jonathan Sparkenbaugh
What's your day job?
I work as a cashier at Publix.
Do you have any hobbies outside of improv?
I like to write short stories, play video games with friends, and go to metal shows.
What drew you to improv?
I had gone through a bad break up and was really depressed. I had seen a couple of shows before and my friend, Ash, had suggested that I start coming out more often to get out of the depressing void that was my apartment.
What do you like to do most on stage?
The limitless possibilities and creative freedom to make sure the audience, my fellow performers, as well as myself have an entertaining and fun time.
What makes a good scene in your opinion?
Knowing that whoever's on stage is with me.
What's the most memorable moment you've had at Spitfire?
I have so many. I remember one time I was on stage with Cameron. I had trashed his Teddy Ruxpin and lit him on fire as it told me a story. Everyone died laughing and it felt amazing.
How would you explain Spitfire shows to someone who's never been?
It's an experience like no other and it's something new and exciting every time.
How would you describe the Spitfire community in 5 words or less?
Nothing but the best people.
You can see Jonathan perform in the Level Two showcase on July 18 at 9pm. You can also see him perform at the St Pete Improv Jam and Spitfire’s Stand Up Open Mic.
