Homegrown Stand Up and Sketch Comedy Come to Spitfire
We’re expanding our space and our comedy. Since 2016, Spitfire has been known as St. Pete’s home for improv comedy. We're now throwing stand up and sketch into the mix.
Starting in October, we’ll offer weekly open mics and stand up shows. Saturdays at 10pm The Nite Owl Stand Up Comedy Show will feature 3 of Spitfire’s best home grown comics and special guests.
Weekly open mics will be on our new Cafe Stage, with brews on tap and food specials for performers and guests. Stand up comedy classes will be offered in 2020.
The new Spitfire Sketch team will produce their first original showcase in December, on stage Fridays at 9pm. The show will resemble Saturday Night Live, including live and filmed sketches, as well as a musical guest.
In April the team trained with Emmy nominated and Peabody award winning writer Rich Talarico, known for his work on Key & Peele, SNL and MadTV.
The team is led by head writers Jojo White, known for his work with local satire group Tampa News Force, and Coleman O’Toole, a jack of all trades in video production. It’s a long process of theme selection, pitching, rewrites, casting, and rehearsal, so the team has been working since August to make the best show possible.
“People should expect something different and unique brought to St. Pete,” says Jojo White. The show will offer fresh material every 4 months, beginning with a holiday themed show in December.
“I’m really excited to be part of it,” says Coleman O’Toole, “we’re working on some sketches that are sure to jingle your bells.”
