Comics Catch A Break on Stage in St Pete
Some of Tampa Bay’s best up and coming comics are getting back on the mic Fridays at 10p in St. Pete’s artistic Grand Central District. Spitfire’s new Stand Up: Afterhours showcase promises fresh material weekly delivered by 3 local comics willing to split their time and money equally. The audience is encouraged to make donations. The show is free $15, with a 1 drink minimum and all donations go to the comics. All comics and patrons will be masked.
“We’re hoping it’ll sell out,” jokes Austin Tyler, the show's host and Spitfire’s de-facto stand-up manager at their new location. Tyler and other local comics will perform from 10p-1030sih, with clear face shields at a 6 foot distance on Spitfire’s new main stage. The audience will be seated and distanced by an usher, honoring the City of St Petersburg’s “St Pete Way” initiative.
“Limiting our seats like this makes us the only option right now for folks who want to see something live and avoid crowds,” says Nick Rigs, Spitfire’s Artistic Director. “Our new building is much bigger, so we’re glad we can give locals a chance to catch a show, even if it’s a smaller crowd than usual.” Spitfire is asking for a 1 drink minimum from all in attendance, ensuring half the door sales and all donations go to the comics.
While the first show is nearly sold out tickets are available for reservation of future shows. Tickets can be reserved in advance at www.spitfiretheater.com/shows.
