There’s not many places to go these days for a great date. Spitfire Theater in St. Pete’s Grand Central District is offering 2 tickets to 2 shows and 2 drinks for $30 every Friday. The package features an 8p showing of 3 First Dates, a Chicago-style improv show about dating mishaps, followed by The Bartender from 9p-930p, an ‘improvised sitcom’ that puts a spin on popular shows like Friends. Spitfire offers a wide selection of beer, wine, coffee, kombucha and more.
“All we’ve been seeing are couples,” says Nick Rigs, Spitfire’s Artistic Director. Spitfire’s new location has helped them grow fresh audiences on Thursday and Saturday nights, but Fridays have been more challenging. “We were doing shows meant for big crowds. It just wasn’t working,” said Rigs. “We noticed an entire crowd of people on dates so we made some changes. People seem to really want to pay attention - right now it’s less about the party and more about seeing something objectively funny.”

Since reopening in June at their new location at 1920 1st Ave S, Spitfire has been trailblazing live performance safety measures in the region. Performers have been wearing clear face shields at a 6 foot distance on Spitfire’s new main stage since the day St. Pete’s mandatory mask order was signed. Patrons are seated and socially distanced by an usher and required to wear masks, honoring the City of St Petersburg’s “St Pete Way” initiative.
“People want to come, but they want to feel safe. And it’s easier to laugh when you feel safe. Couples have a great time because they can settle in together for what feels more like a private show,” said Rigs.
The Friday “date night” ticket special applies automatically at checkout when you get 2 tickets to 3 First Dates and runs for a limited time. Tickets can be reserved in advance at www.spitfiretheater.com/shows.
